U.S. Secretary Of State Pompeo's Tie Length Has Evolved From When He Was In Congress; Prime Minister Johnson Joins Him; Vice President Pence Strains For Normal- What's The Message?

The Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of the United States, wears his ties substantially longer than is standard.

Images of The Honorable Michael R. Pompeo, United States Secretary of State, show that the length of his tie has increased.

The Honorable Michael R. Pence, Vice President of the United States, has somewhat maintained the length of his tie.

The Honorable Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson (Boris Johnson), Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has increased measurably the length of his tie.

When a member of the United States Congress, then Representative Pompeo (R- Kansas) wore his tie at what is considered the standard length.  After becoming Director of Central Intelligence and then United States Secretary of State in the Trump Administration, the length has increasingly lengthened.

Other male officials within the Trump Administration and male members of the United States Congress have also increased the length of their ties since 20 January 2017.

Consider the norm: When it comes to proper tie length the rules are quite simple. Essentially, the tip of your tie should end in the middle of your waistband (or belt if you are wearing one) when you are standing in your natural posture.”

Has the length of one’s tie become similar in messaging to when an individual seeks public office or is appointed to public office and then begins to wear a small United States flag on a lapel?

They may have never worn such adornment prior to entering the public domain, but wearing the small United States flag while campaigning or once in office is supposed to lend authority to their words and their actions; reflect their patriotism- and, infer they are more patriotic than those who don’t wear a lapel pin of the United States flag.

A pin of colored enamel worn on one’s lapel should not be a barometer for one’s authority or wisdom or common sense or, particularly, patriotism.  It’s a pin.

Similarly, a tie worn in a non-standard manner, while highly visible, should not be absorbed by anyone as projection of strength.

It’s a fashion statement, nothing more as Secretary Pompeo demonstrates- for years he preferred ties with a standard length; once selected by President Trump, how he perceived being “well-dressed” changed. It’s conformity.
