Zelensky Wants 200,000 U.S. And European Peacekeepers In Ukraine.  Cost Projection US$153 Million Per Day, US$4.6 Billion Per Month, US$55.2 Billion Per Year. Who Will Pay? President Trump?

Volodymyr Zelensky, President Of Ukraine, Wants 200,000 U.S. And European Peacekeepers In Ukraine.  Cost Projection US$153 Million Per Day, US$4.6 Billion Per Month, US$55.2 Billion Per Year.

  • “It can’t be without the United States,” Zelenskiy told Bloomberg Wednesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos. “Even if some European friends think it can be, no it can’t be. Nobody will risk without the United States.”

Kyiv Independent (21 January 2025): “At least 200,000 European soldiers would be required to serve as peacekeepers on Ukraine's eastern front for a peace deal to be enforced, President Volodymyr Zelensky [2019-2024; term extended due to martial law] said during a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Jan. 21.”

Important to note that President Zelensky did not reference peacekeepers to include active-duty service members from the United States armed forces.

However, the costs to deploy Europe continent-based peacekeepers, presumably members of the Brussels, Belgium-based North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), is similar to the costs for active-duty service members from the United States armed forces.

  • NATO: United States, United Kingdom, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Albania, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Croatia, Czech Republic, Poland, Estonia, Romania, Germany, Slovakia, Greece, Slovenia, Hungary, Spain, Turkiye, Latvia, and North Macedonia, Sweden.

The United States Department of Defense (DOD) estimates the annual average cost per active-duty service member in a non-conflict position is approximately US$140,000.00- or approximately US$384.00 per day.

200,000 active-duty service members in a non-conflict area would cost approximately US$76.8 million per day.  US$2.3 billion per month.  US$27.6 billion per year.

According to the DOD, in-the-field costs for each active-duty service member would increase substantially due to the required additional support infrastructure.

Using a DOD provided estimate of US$768.00 per day, the daily cost for 200,000 active-duty service members would be US$153 million.  Monthly would be US$4.6 billion.  Annually would be US$55.2 billion.

The United Nations (UN) projects the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti to cost approximately US$600 million annually for approximately 2,500 personnel- or US$240,000.00 per person.
