No Congressional Visits To Ukraine? U.S. Senate On Scheduled Recess. U.S. House On Unscheduled Recess. Will Anyone Go? Should Anyone Go? Best To Remain Silent?

The United States Senate is in recess from the afternoon of 4 October 2023 until the morning of 16 October 2023. 

The United States House of Representatives is in a previously unscheduled recess from 3 October 2023 until 11 October 2023.

One Congressional Delegation (CODEL) has been announced to China, Japan, and South Korea.  The United States Senate bipartisan CODEL includes: Charles Schumer (D- New York), Mike Crapo (R- Idaho), Maggie Hassan (D- New Hampshire), Jon Ossoff (D- Georgia), Bill Cassidy (R- Louisiana), and John Kennedy (R- Louisiana).

Thus far, there have been no announced travel to Ukraine by members of the United States Senate or United States House of Representatives.

Within the 118th United States Congress, since 24 February 2022, 17% of the United States Senate have visited Ukraine and 2.9% of the United States House of Representatives have visited Ukraine.

Thus, 8.0% of the members of the 118th United States Congress having visited Ukraine since 24 February 2022.

War Timeline 

  • On 24 February 2022, the armed forces of the Russian Federation invaded and further invaded the territory of Ukraine in what Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation (2000-2008 and 2012- ), defined as a Special Military Operation [SMO] then on 22 December 2022 he redefined as a war.  The initial invasion of Ukraine by the armed forces of the Russian Federation was in part from the territory of Belarus.   

  • The war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine did not commence on 24 February 2022.  The roots began their trajectories on 20 February 2014 when the armed forces of the Russian Federation invaded the Crimean Peninsula and the area known as the Donbas Region (Donetsk Oblast and Luhansk Oblast).
